Cannabinoid Spotlight: CBG

Cannabinoid Spotlight: CBG

There are over 140 cannabinoids produced by the hemp plant, and the well-known few are only the tip of the iceberg. The goal of this article is to shine a light on CBG, which is the parent cannabinoid – meaning that most of the cannabinoids are created when CBG undergoes chemical changes.

WHAT IS CBG?

CBG stands for cannabigerol, which is a cannabinoid just like CBD, CBN, and THC. All of these are naturally produced by the hemp plant and found in hemp oil.

Every cannabinoid starts out as CBG – like we said before, it is the parent of them all. From there, they convert to other cannabinoids, but CBG always acts as the starting point.

WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF CBG?

Much like CBD and CBN, there are numerous positive effects that CBG offers, such as:

  • It helps treat glaucoma*.
  • It assists in decreasing inflammation, such as flare-ups of the bowels*.
  • Research suggests it has positive outcomes when combating Huntington’s disease*.
  • It has been linked to inhibiting tumor growth* in certain types of cancer.
  • It may help kill drug-resistant bacteria*.
  • It could assist in lessening the effects of anxiety disorders*.

HOW DOES CBG WORK?

Like all the other cannabinoids, CBG works through the endocannabinoid system in our bodies. It connects to both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, and research shows it connects even better than CBD does in certain circumstances. It’s important to note that, while CBG is the parent cannabinoid, it does not contain any psychoactive properties like THC does. Because of this, CBG will not get you high.

HOW IS CBG DIFFERENT FROM CBD?

Though the positive benefits of both cannabinoids are somewhat similar, CBD and CBG have one main difference. Like we stated before, CBG connects more effectively with both the CB1 and CB2 receptors, and it’s able to do this because of the direct interaction that it has with them. With CBD, the interaction tends to be on more of an indirect basis, therefore the body feels the effects in a potentially lesser way than when consuming CBG.

WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CBG?

CBG is present in any full spectrum hemp extract products, because ‘full spectrum’ means that it contains all the wonderful cannabinoids that make the body feel great. Such products include tinctures, topicals, edibles, and many more.

But at ICHOR, we have a product that’s centered on CBD and CBG alone. Our Softgels with CBD + CBG give you the best of both worlds (AKA the best of both cannabinoids).
