The hemp plant is an amazing thing, and luckily we’ve found many ways to utilize its awesome properties. It contains over 140 cannabinoids – including ones you know like CBD and CBG – but there are plenty that you may have never heard of. This article is here to shine a light on CBN, a powerhouse of a cannabinoid that doesn’t typically get the spotlight.
WHAT IS CBN?
CBN stands for cannabinol – a cannabinoid found in hemp extract (that’s naturally produced by the hemp plant) just like CBD, CBG, and THC. CBN is found in cannabis and grows over time, appearing in greater concentrations as the plant ages. When exposed to heat or oxygen, THC converts into CBN.
WHAT ARE THE EFFECTS OF CBN?
As with many of the other cannabinoids, there are plenty of positive effects that coincide with CBN. Though CBD and CBN are different cannabinoids, the health benefits that they’re known for are very similar.
CBN can:
- Assist in pain relief*. It does this by altering the signals that the neurons that sense pain send to the brain.
- Work as an antibacterial*. Preliminary research seems to suggest that CBN has the potential to fight infections that are known to be antibiotic-resistant.
- Fight against seizures*. Like THC, CBN has been linked to reducing the rate and/or severity of seizures.
- Help you sleep better*. Not only can its relaxing properties help you fall asleep, but they help you stay asleep longer.
HOW DOES CBN WORK?
Like the rest of the cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, CBN works by interacting with the human endocannabinoid system. It affects how our hormones and neurotransmitters work, and therefore it can impact your mood, appetite, sleep, energy, etc.
IS CBN PSYCHOACTIVE?
No. Though CBN is derived from THC (the psychoactive compound of the cannabis plant), it’s not the same thing and it will not get you high. Much like CBD and many of the other cannabinoids found in the hemp plant, it has positive benefits to offer without the high.
HOW IS CBN DIFFERENT FROM CBD?
There are many similarities when it comes to these two compounds, but there are a few aspects of the two that differ. For example, CBN is more optimized for good sleep because it produces more of a sleepy feeling* than CBD does.
The way the body processes these two tends to look different as well. Since CBN is derived directly from THC, it borrows some properties from that compound. It acts on the CB1 endocannabinoid receptor like THC does – though it doesn’t produce the well-known high. CBD, on the other hand, doesn’t act directly on any of the CB receptors.
WHAT’S THE BEST WAY TO TAKE CBN?
You will find CBN in any full spectrum hemp extract product, because full spectrum means that that product contains all of the cannabinoids that hemp has to offer. The products that have potential to be full spectrum include tinctures, topicals, edibles… the list goes on and on.
Since CBN is focused so greatly on sleep, one of the more effective ways to get it into your system would be through ICHOR’s Softgels with CBD, CBN, and melatonin. With these three compounds working together, you’ll be sure to get the best rest of your life.
If you’re someone who enjoys the effect that CBD has on your life, then it might be time to take the plunge and see what CBN can do for you. You won’t regret taking the wellness journey with this awesome cannabinoid.
